What is Clinical Training Support?
Bader Drive Healthcare's Clinical Training Support programme aims to increase the number of General Practitioners and New Zealand Registered Nurses in New Zealand General Practice, particularly of pacific ethnicity.
What we want to achieve:
- Promote General Practice
- Increase the number of General Practitioners and Practice Nurses of Pacific Ethnicity
- Improve employment opportunities for program participants in General Practice including placements within Pacific health providers or Primary Care providers with high Pacific populations.
- Improving Workforce Development as part of the Strategy from the Ministry of Health, District Health Boards and NZ Nursing Council
- Evaluation of the programme will be administered to see if it can be carried out on a wider scale
Recruitment
Bader Drive Healthcare will be organising and hosting two events throughout the academic year with interested Medical & Nursing students, Return to Nursing Nurses, Hospital Nurses, Registered Medical Officers, Registrars and GP Locums.
Meet and Greet Evenings... >>
- We will invite recent Nursing Graduates, Return to Nursing candidates, Trainee Interns, and 5th and 6th year Medical Students, informing them about a career as a General
Practitioner or a General Practice Nurse. - We will also provide a career pathway resource for under-graduates, outlining practical steps towards becoming a
General Practice Nurse or a General Practitioner.

Information Evenings... >>
- Organise and facilitate information evenings with interested:
- Registered Medical Officers, Registrars and GP locums with the purpose of promoting the RNZCGP training program (Registrar Training Program), its various stages/requirements and outcome as a Fellow of the Royal NZ College of GPs
- New graduate, return to nursing, hospital nurses and interested nursing students
- Provide resources and other info explaining the above process
- Include First Hand accounts from current General Practitioners and Nurses on what it is like to work within Primary Care and the attractiveness of General Practice.
Training
- We will be providing support for participants of the program towards essential Nursing Certifications / Portfolio and PRIMEX examinations for GPEP1 candidates
- Participants will be assisted to attend conferences and symposiums agreed to by the Ministry of Health, Programme Facilitators and Teachers
- Organise work placements with accredited Primary health care providers to ensure participants have quality tuition.
- Facilitators are Dr Juliet Walker and Dr Siro Fuatai
- Facilitators for nursing participants are Deidre Cameron, and Preceptor support provided by Tina Salter, Tepora Peseta and Mary Roberts.
- Practice Experience will be at Bader Drive Healthcare, Mangere Family Doctors and West Fono Health Trust.
- Working collaboratively with the RNZCGPs to facilitate placements and support with accredited Teaching Practices.
Support:
- We will support the participants within the programme to develop relevant skills and competencies towards achieving Nurse Certification / Portfolio and GP PRIMEX
- Organise support meetings that will aim to provide participants with:
- Continual education opportunities
- Work plan development
- Provide a supportive environment to allow for regular mentor and peer support
